Road Traffic Accidents?
Britain has one of the best records in the world for road casualties. However, hundreds still die on the roads every year. In 2010, the police recorded 1,850 deaths, 22,660 people seriously injured and 184,138 who received light injuriesThe BBC has use Data and Statistics from the police databases and put together a webtool that shows you just how many fatal road traffic accidents there were in the years 1999-2010. In Corby there were 37 deaths and 59 in Kettering. We all need to take care on the roads as pedestrians and also as road users - Remember to use your MIRRORS.

New test scheme to be trialled in Kettering.
Better local services for driving test candidates in the Kettering area
Driving test candidates in the Kettering area are set to benefit from a more convenient service as the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) extends a trial exploring a new approach to test delivery.
As well as using conventional driving test centres, the DSA has been looking at whether practical driving tests can be delivered from other venues such as local authority buildings, hotels or leisure centres.
This new approach is currently being trialled at eight locations, and following positive feedback from candidates and instructors, the DSA now plans to extend the scheme to five more areas across the country, including Kettering.
Road Safety Minister Mike Penning said:
“We have to be more flexible and innovative in delivering driving tests to make sure that we are offering people the best service possible wherever they live and I am delighted that these first trials have proved successful.
“We are now extending the trial so that more candidates will be able to benefit from a service that is convenient as well as being cost effective.”
In each of the five new trial areas DSA will look to identify a number of locations where there is sufficient demand for driving tests to be provided locally. In the Kettering area, these locations could include:
Corby
Market Harborough
Wellingborough
The DSA will work to identify suitable test routes and premises in these locations. Any new arrangements will have to provide the right level of service for candidates, as well as maintaining the integrity of the test.
